One thousand and fifty days and nights over the past five years, Diane and I have spent apart. During the time I’ve been serving as Pastor in Blue Ridge, Diane has continued to teach at Starr’s Mill High School in Fayette County.
Now, however, in just a few weeks, our two households will be reunited in Blue Ridge. Diane has been hired to teach at Gilmer High School in Ellijay. So, as the title says above, “My Wife is Moving!” It seems a bit odd, but I guess you could say we are completing what we began in the summer of 2010.
What a joy and relief this is for the two of us. God has given us strength and peace to endure what we never could have imagined would be this long journey. Every time a door closed on the few openings to teach in this area, we found comfort in our belief that in time we would be led together to the right place. And now God has led Diane to that right place.
Diane has been an outstanding teacher among a faculty of outstanding teachers and administrators at one of Georgia’s top performing schools for the past sixteen years. I am in awe of her as an educator and mentor to young people and a friend and trusted colleague among her fellow educators. While at Starr’s Mill High she has taught Biology, Earth Science, Gifted Biology, AP Biology, AP Environmental and Anatomy. She has served as Sponsor for the Honors Program and has been the Coach of that School’s Science Olympiad team. Diane taught at Carrolton High before joining the Starr’s Mill faculty. She worked in the poultry feed additives business and in Quality Control and Labeling in the snack food sector for eighteen years before going into the classroom. Diane was Valedictorian of her class in High School (Albany High of Albany, GA). She is a Magna Cum Laude graduate in Biology at the University of Georgia and earned her Masters in Education from Georgia State University.
Gilmer High School will be adding a gifted and dedicated teacher who is excited about joining their faculty. She is going from being a Starr’s Mill Panther to a Gilmer High Bobcat. Go Cats! & Go Diane!
Diane and I would both like to thank you all for your support and prayers for us over these past five years. Your patience, prayers, and love have allowed us to make this work. It is a joy and privilege to serve as your pastor. We are glad to have been reappointed to serve you for the year to come.
