Not Lost, but “Here”
Mark 9:2 And six days later, Jesus took^ with Him Peter and James and John, and brought^ them up to a high mountain by themselves. And He was transfigured before them;
Mark 9:3 and His garments became radiant and exceedingly white, as no launderer on earth can whiten them.
Mark 9:4 And Elijah appeared to them along with Moses; and they were talking with Jesus.
Mark 9:5 And Peter answered and said^ to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here; and let us make three tabernacles, one for You, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”
Mark 9:6 For he did not know what to answer; for they became terrified.
Mark 9:7 Then a cloud formed, overshadowing them, and a voice came out of the cloud, “This is My beloved Son, listen to Him!”
Mark 9:8 And all at once they looked around and saw no one with them anymore, except Jesus alone.

Disciples knew where they were – from the mountain they could see the cities, lakes and road that they knew – but the place was “good”
- Jacob- “Here” is an awesome place
Gen 28:10 Then Jacob departed from Beersheba and went toward Haran.
Gen 28:11 And he came to a certain place and spent the night there, because the sun had set; and he took one of the stones of the place and put it under his head, and lay down in that place.
Gen 28:12 And he had a dream, and behold, a ladder was set on the earth with its top reaching to heaven; and behold, the angels of God were ascending and descending on it.
Gen 28:13 And behold, the LORD stood above it and said, “I am the LORD, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac; the land on which you lie, I will give it to you and to your descendants.
Gen 28:14 “Your descendants shall also be like the dust of the earth, and you shall spread out to the west and to the east and to the north and to the south; and in you and in your descendants shall all the families of the earth be blessed.
Gen 28:15 “And behold, I am with you, and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land; for I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.”
Gen 28:16 Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, “Surely the LORD is in this place, and I did not know it.”
Gen 28:17 And he was afraid and said, “How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.”
Had a destination in mind – running away, on the go, moving to a new life
- Moses- “Here” is holy ground
Exo 3:1 Now Moses was pasturing the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian; and he led the flock to the west side of the wilderness, and came to Horeb, the mountain of God.
Exo 3:2 And the angel of the LORD appeared to him in a blazing fire from the midst of a bush; and he looked, and behold, the bush was burning with fire, yet the bush was not consumed.
Exo 3:3 So Moses said, “I must turn aside now, and see this marvelous sight, why the bush is not burned up.”
Exo 3:4 When the LORD saw that he turned aside to look, God called to him from the midst of the bush, and said, “Moses, Moses!” And he said, “Here I am.”
Exo 3:5 Then He said, “Do not come near here; remove your sandals from your feet, for the place on which you are standing is holy ground.”
Just doing his job – no longer bearing the burden of responsibility (out of the rat race)

- Emmaus – “Here” is a place of recognition
Luke 24:13 And behold, two of them were going that very day to a village named Emmaus, which was about seven miles from Jerusalem.
Luke 24:14 And they were conversing with each other about all these things which had taken place.
Luke 24:15 And it came about that while they were conversing and discussing, Jesus Himself approached, and began traveling with them.
Luke 24:16 But their eyes were prevented from recognizing Him.
Luke 24:17 And He said to them, “What are these words that you are exchanging with one another as you are walking?” And they stood still, looking sad.
Luke 24:18 And one of them, named Cleopas, answered and said to Him, “Are You the only one visiting Jerusalem and unaware of the things which have happened here in these days?”
Luke 24:19 And He said to them, “What things?” And they said to Him, “The things about Jesus the Nazarene, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word in the sight of God and all the people,
Luke 24:20 and how the chief priests and our rulers delivered Him up to the sentence of death, and crucified Him.
Luke 24:21 “But we were hoping that it was He who was going to redeem Israel. Indeed, besides all this, it is the third day since these things happened.
Luke 24:22 “But also some women among us amazed us. When they were at the tomb early in the morning,
Luke 24:23 and did not find His body, they came, saying that they had also seen a vision of angels, who said that He was alive.
Luke 24:24 “And some of those who were with us went to the tomb and found it just exactly as the women also had said; but Him they did not see.”
Luke 24:25 And He said to them, “O foolish men and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken!
Luke 24:26 “Was it not necessary for the Christ to suffer these things and to enter into His glory?”
Luke 24:27 And beginning with Moses and with all the prophets, He explained to them the things concerning Himself in all the Scriptures.
Luke 24:28 And they approached the village where they were going, and He acted as though He would go farther.
Luke 24:29 And they urged Him, saying, “Stay with us, for it is getting toward evening, and the day is now nearly over.” And He went in to stay with them.
Luke 24:30 And it came about that when He had reclined at the table with them, He took the bread and blessed it, and breaking it, He began giving it to them.
Luke 24:31 And their eyes were opened and they recognized Him; and He vanished from their sight.
Thought is was over – going back to the lives they knew before, just going home

We are closer to God by being “here” than we know or even see
God is close to bless, encourage, guide, strengthen
We are not lost, but “here”
